September 20th- Measuring the Outcomes of Learning and Development
Rachel Dumke, First Bank Financial Centre
Rachel Dumke spent her entire academic career crying over math. As fate would have it, she worked as a teller in college and her most lucrative job offer post-graduation landed her back in banking. Instead of wallowing over the injustice, she spent much of her 25 years in financial services avoiding roles which the position description contained reference to being ‘comfortable with numbers’. After seven years with a global bank and another nine years with regional banks in a variety of roles, Rachel found her dream opportunity, developing and executing a talent development strategy for a community bank with an executive leadership team committed to creating and maintaining a strong learning culture. During her earlier years spent on the strategic side of corporate marketing she warmed up to numbers through the surprisingly (mostly) painless development of countless pro-forma. It was then she realized that support is in the numbers, and put “…measurement and reporting” into her own job description as Talent Development Manager at First Bank Financial Centre.
Rachel will share the frustrations and joys of measuring the impact of employee learning and development in a small organization; share the resources that have been invaluable to her in the development of measuring the impact of FBFC’s leadership development program; debunk measurement myths; and, poke holes in excuses (she’s probably tried them all out—in her head).
Rachel has come to value the critical role numbers play in delivering a meaningful learner experience that yields measurable business results which helps garner support from key stakeholders for future learning solutions.
